Flora undated (ca. 1940s) painting
2008 limited edition prints available
Jim Flora Art LLC has released a limited-edition, archival-quality fine art print of a 1940's Jim Flora painting entitled The Rape of the Stationmaster's Daughter. Throughout his career, the artist -- a man of many moods -- often explored violent and decadent themes in his fine art; these noir impulses contrasted sharply with his well-known music illustrations and mischievously comic commercial art.
The original The Rape of the Stationmaster's Daughter is stored in the Flora family's private collection, and is not for sale at this time. The work was hand-titled by the artist on the reverse, but was neither signed nor dated. Flora archivists have analyzed the technique and determined that it reflects Flora's early- to mid-1940s style.
Only twenty (20) prints of Stationmaster's Daughter were produced for this edition. Each print is titled in the lower left hand corner beneath the image and numbered in the lower right. It is authenticated on the reverse with the stamped seal of Jim Flora Art LLC (a Flora family enterprise). Prints 15/20 thru 18/20 have been sold, and we are now offering numbers 14/20 and 19/20 for $250 each. Prices will increase for subsequent prints as the edition depletes.
Produced by Flora archivist Barbara Economon, the prints have been meticulously crafted and painstakingly replicated from the original work using state-of-the-art digital technology. A photographic transparency was made of the original art, a tempera painting on paper. All aspects of the original artwork have been retained, including minor aging artifacts which in no way detract from the overall impression.
The image area is 14" high x 18-1/2" wide — slightly larger than the original work — and centered on a sheet 17" high x 22" wide. The unframed prints are on heavyweight (310g) mould-made William Turner stock, a natural white, 100% rag paper with a fine toothy surface manufactured by Hahnemühle, who are renowned for premium-grade archival papers. The edition was produced on an Epson 3800Pro large format printer using Epson UltraChrome K3 Pigment Ink Technology, resulting in brilliant, velvety color and offering excellent longevity and durability.
The print will ship flat, securely packaged and guaranteed against bending or dents. Print includes a detailed, custom-printed one-sheet with instructions for the proper care of this fine art reproduction.
Elements from The Stationmaster's Daughter were reproduced on the cover of The Curiously Sinister Art of Jim Flora, and the full work was reproduced in the book. Due to the fine art print's higher-resolution process, as well as superior paper, inks, and quality control, the colors in the print appear brighter, crisper, and more vibrant than those in the book. Online color appearance may vary slightly depending on your monitor settings.
