Description
JimFlora.com is offering a limited-edition, archival-quality fine art print of an uncirculated, untitled 1943 Jim Flora tempera painting. The work, which depicts five colorful musicians, is casually referred to as “Jazz Quintet” to differentiate it from other untitled Flora works. The painting was rendered by Flora the same year he was promoted to Art Director of Columbia Records.
Produced by Flora archivist Barbara Economon, the prints have been meticulously replicated from the original painting using state-of-the-art digital technology.
Only ten (10) prints of Jazz Quintet were produced for this edition. Each print is numbered in the lower right corner beneath the image and authenticated on the reverse with a stamped seal. The edition is sold out and prints are no longer available in wall display-sized format. The work may be offered in reduced form in merchandise items such as cards, calendars or folios, or commissioned as exclusive, premium-priced, custom-formatted single prints produced privately at our discretion. The sale price of the final print was $600.00. Edition prints in private hands might appear on the secondary market, but we do not arrange such offerings and will not be personally involved in secondary sales.
A high-resolution scan was made of the original art, a tempera painting on paper. All aspects of the original artwork (with Flora’s signature and date in the lower left) have been retained, including minor aging artifacts which in no way detract from the overall impression.
The image area is 13-3/8″ high x 11-1/2″ wide — slightly larger than the original work — and centered on a sheet 19″ high x 13″ wide. The unframed prints are on heavyweight (310g) mould-made William Turner stock, a natural white, 100% rag paper with a fine toothy surface manufactured by Hahnemühle, who are renowned for premium-grade archival papers. The edition was produced using Epson UltraChrome K3 Pigment Ink Technology, resulting in brilliant, velvety color and offering excellent longevity and durability.
Jazz Quintet was reproduced in The Curiously Sinister Art of Jim Flora. Due to the fine art print’s higher-resolution process, as well as superior paper, inks, and quality control, the colors in the print appear brighter, crisper, and more vibrant than those in the book. Online color appearance may vary slightly depending on your monitor settings.
