Description

JimFlora.com has released a limited-edition, archival-quality fine art print of an uncirculated, untitled Jim Flora pen & ink drawing with watercolor casually referred to as Rowayton Creature Tableau (to differentiate it from other untitled Flora works). The undated work was discovered in the artist’s collection. Flora authorities Barbara Economon and Irwin Chusid have analyzed the technique and determined that it reflects Flora’s 1970s style of caricature commonly found in his children’s books of that decade. Rowayton CT was Flora’s hometown from the mid-1940s to his death in 1998. Over the years he rendered scenes from the town dozens of times in a variety of media. The creature tableau is one of his more playful portraits of the town.

Rowayton Creature Tableau has not previously been reproduced or published. Produced by Flora archivist Barbara Economon, the prints have been meticulously replicated from the original work using state-of-the-art digital technology. A high-resolution scan was made of the original art, a pen and ink with watercolor fill on illustration board. All aspects of the original artwork have been retained. In addition, because the original work was unsigned, a Flora signature from the period has been added in the lower right to officially “brand” the work.

Only twenty-five (25) prints of Rowayton Creature Tableau were produced for this edition. Each print is hand-numbered in the lower right corner beneath the image and authenticated on the reverse with the stamped seal of Jim Flora Art (a Flora family enterprise). Prices for prints will increase as the edition depletes.

The image area is 10″ high x 17-1/2″ wide on an untrimmed 13″ x 19″ sheet. The unframed prints are on heavyweight (310g) mould-made William Turner stock, a natural white, 100% rag paper with a fine toothy surface manufactured by Hahnemühle, who are renowned for premium-grade archival papers. The edition was produced using Epson UltraChrome K3 Pigment Ink Technology, offering crisp resolution and assuring excellent longevity and durability.

The print will ship flat, securely packaged and guaranteed against bending or dents. Print includes a detailed, custom-printed one-sheet with instructions for the proper care of this fine art reproduction.

Due to the fine art print’s higher-resolution process, as well as superior paper, inks, and quality control, the print resolution appears brighter, crisper, and more vibrant than the online image. Online appearance may vary slightly depending on your monitor settings.
