JimFlora.com has released a limited-edition, archival-quality fine art print of an uncirculated 1940s-era Jim Flora tempera. The work, which depicts a phantasmagoria of grotesque peepers, some with stray limbs and optional mouths, is entitled Spectators. Flora archivists Barbara Economon and Irwin Chusid have examined the technique and determined that it reflects Flora’s mid- to late-1940s style of caricature. This work has not previously been reproduced or published anywhere. The original is owned by Flora’s godson, Keith McAllister, of California, who granted us permission to professionally photograph the work and issue it as a limited edition print.

Only twenty-five (25) prints of Spectators were produced for this edition. Each print is hand-numbered in the lower right, hand-titled in the lower left (beneath the art), and authenticated on the reverse with the stamped seal of Jim Flora Art (a Flora family enterprise). We have sold print numbers 20/25 thru 25/25, and are now offering print numbers 16/25 thru 19/25 at $195.00 each (plus s/h). Prices will increase for subsequent prints as the edition depletes.

Produced by Flora printmaker Barbara Economon, the prints have been meticulously replicated from the original work using state-of-the-art digital technology. A high-resolution photograph was made of the original art, a tempera painting on heavy stock. All aspects of the original artwork have been retained, including minor aging artifacts which in no way detract from the overall impression. Because the original work was unsigned, a compatible Flora painted signature from the 1940s has been embedded in the lower right to officially “brand” the work.

The image area is 20-1/2″ wide x 9-1/2″ high, centered on a sheet 22″ wide x 17″ high. The unframed prints are on heavyweight (310g) mould-made William Turner stock, a natural white, 100% rag paper with a fine toothy surface manufactured by Hahnemühle, who are renowned for premium-grade archival papers. The edition was produced using Epson UltraChrome K3 Pigment Ink Technology, resulting in brilliant, velvety color and offering excellent longevity and durability.

The print will ship flat, securely packaged and guaranteed against bending or dents. (If it is damaged in shipping, it will be replaced.) Print includes a detailed, custom-printed one-sheet with instructions for the proper care of this fine art reproduction.

Due to the fine art print’s higher-resolution process, as well as superior paper, inks, and quality control, the colors in the print appear brighter, crisper, and more vibrant than the online images. Online color appearance may vary slightly depending on your monitor settings.
