JimFlora.com has released a limited-edition, archival-quality fine art print of a 1964 Jim Flora painting entitled The Five Spot. The title refers to a famous New York City jazz club that booked such legends as Thelonious Monk, Charles Mingus, and John Coltrane during the 1940s and 1950s. Flora had been a jazz buff since childhood, and often portrayed iconic jazz figures and club vignettes in sketches and paintings.
The original The Five Spot is stored in the Flora family’s private collection, and is not for sale at this time. The work, which has not previously been reproduced or published anywhere, was hand-titled by the artist in the lower left and signed and dated in the lower right. These markings are retained in the print.
Only twenty-five (25) prints of The Five Spot were produced for this edition. Each print is authenticated on the reverse with the stamped seal of Jim Flora Art LLC (a Flora family enterprise). We have sold numbers 17/25 thru 25/25, and are now offering numbers 15/25 and 16/25 for $185 each. Prices will increase for remaining prints as the edition depletes.
Produced by Flora co-archivist Barbara Economon, the prints have been meticulously replicated from the original work using state-of-the-art digital technology. A high-resolution scan was made of the original art, a tempera painting on heavy paper in a spiral-bound tablet. All aspects of the original artwork have been retained, including minor aging artifacts which in no way detract from the overall impression.
The image area is 10″ high x 15-3/8″ wide — slightly smaller than the original work — and centered on a sheet 11″ high x 17″ wide. The unframed prints are on heavyweight (310g) mould-made William Turner stock, a natural white, 100% rag paper with a fine toothy surface manufactured by Hahnemühle, who are renowned for premium-grade archival papers. The edition was produced on an Epson 3800Pro large format printer using Epson UltraChrome K3 Pigment Ink Technology, resulting in brilliant, velvety color and offering excellent longevity and durability.
The print will ship flat, securely packaged and guaranteed against bending or dents. Print includes a detailed, custom-printed one-sheet with instructions for the proper care of this fine art reproduction.
Due to the fine art print’s higher-resolution process, as well as superior paper, inks, and quality control, the colors in the print appear brighter, crisper, and more vibrant than the online image. Online color appearance may vary slightly depending on your monitor settings.
